Bloodborne Pathogens

Overview

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1030 requires employers to safeguard employees who have a reasonably anticipated occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials.

Bloodborne pathogens are infectious microorganisms in human blood that can cause disease in humans. These pathogens include, but are not limited to, hepatitis B (HBV), hepatitis C (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). In order to reduce or eliminate the hazards of occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens, an employer must implement an exposure control plan for the worksite with details on employee protection measures.

What You'll Learn

The primary goal of this course is to teach workers the correct procedures to follow in a potential bloodborne pathogen event. The user will learn how to:

  • Render first aid to an injured teammate
  • Utilize proper PPE procedures
  • Prevent additional exposure to blood borne pathogens
  • The correct steps in cleaning up a blood spin without being exposed
  • See the consequences of improper actions

The Bloodborne Pathogen VR simulation is ideal for employees or supervisors who work in hazardous environments where a potential bloodborne pathogen event may occur.
